The long term idea of establishing special economic zones in Iran was to connect Iran’s economy to the world and benefit from generation of foreign currency, efficient utilization of domestic resources, especially low cost energy and man power. Free zones in Iran would help to benefit from latest world technologies and helps domestic employment, especially for the young generations. Iranian Free and Special Economic Zones connect Iran to CIS, Russia and other neighboring countries.
The nature of special economic zone in Iran, like everywhere else is easy movement of capital and profit of foreign investments. Sirjan Special Economic Zone (S.S.E.Z) has started in 1992. SSEZ is located in the north of city of Sirjan , Situated 300 Km. North of Bandar Abbas, the main Iranian port in the persian Gulf. Sirjan is 1370 meter above sea level with unhumid and four season climate. The investment in Sirjan so far is in excess of USD 100 MLN. All from private sector.
So far 50 industrial unit have started their production, such as FRICO (Edible oils), Sirjan Sugar (Sugar refinery), Pariz Electronics (Thomsom and L.G. T.V. sets), Sirjan Stone (Stone tiles), etc.
Today SSEZ has a potential of warehousing in this perfect climate of approx. four Mln. Tones in it’s own and private high quality warehousing facilities. The zone cooling warehouse can also store 4000-5000 Mt. Of preceable goods.
The zone is located in the cross road of Iran and connects East to West and North to South, by road , rail and air. Hence it is a perfect location for investment, whether trade, manufacturing and conversion industry. Local services such as, adjacent airport, private rail terminal , 24 hours customs, loading and unloading and low cost transportation in zone, in-house bank, and insurance office digital telephone system, private satellite connection, hotel and residential housing, low cost power, drinkable refined water piping and many other unique services of SSEZ contributes further, to it success. |
